Week 9: Podcasts, Video & ebooks

This time I am exploring Podcasts, Video and E-books!

I am a huge fan of YouTube :D Its an incredible tool, to be honest apart from watching the odd WOW movie the main thing I watch from Youtube is old videos. I love searching for old music videos and in particular concerts of groups who's bio's I have just finished. :D

For example, I read a Bio of Led Zeppelin a few months ago, it was amazing to be able to go to Youtube and watch live footage of a concert I had read about, and know what happened after the concert and really place it.

Its one of the things that makes me so grateful to live in this age.

Bwhaha hahaha I see that IE is not supported by bloglines beta only firefox :D Ohh the irony :D I didnt think much of this site but now I think I will perservere.

I added Digital punch TV to my bloglines account :D It talks about exciting stuff like guitar hero and the dangers of Wii elbow :P LOL!
Here is the link to the Digital Punch Podcasts, has every episode so far!
I enjoyed browsing all the podcasts I could subscribe to, lots of them sounded interesting aah if Only I had more time.

Been looking via NetLibrary at the book (On) M Aurealis Antonius, its interesting to see the titles available. I wish I had some way to read e-books while on the train, It would be thrilling to have lots and lots of books available, and not be hindered by the weight of them :P (a big consideration when travelling).

To reflect back on my learning journey I have to say it has been a lot of fun! I have learnt so many new things, new resources i have never used before, and brushed up on some things I hadn't used in awhile.
I do have to say that the inability to sit down and knock off things one after another, because you often have to get up and do other things, or answer phones, etc..etc.. does make this quite difficult particularly if you have not quite grasped the directions.
The overwhelming comment I have heard from people is that it does not take 15 minutes. hehe, also that they have learnt a lot. I have definately learnt quite a bit.
As a program it is a fantastic way to take away some of the mysticism of 2.0 . Allowing people to learn and participate in a non-threatening practical manner.

Thank you! :D

Week Eight: Online Applications & Tools

Created a presentation using Zoboshow, it was fun :) a bit tricky to use, and I don't know how user friendly it would be for newbies.
The imbedding didnt work unfortunately, trying other methods :D

Can't figure out how to link into either the sidebar or this post, Ah well, here's a link to my ode to the LOLcats :D

Ooh Yay! Just got it, needed to get the code from the welcome page lol, not sure why. :D All good.

The 2.0 program from the Awards I am going to explore is

Yep, Guess the Google!

Its a fantastic game, very very addictive lol, Had a (growing) group of people standing behind me taking part and yelling out suggestions hehehe a lot of fun!

Definately adding this to delicious!

Week Seven: Wiki's

Added my blog to the favourites page.

Is interesting but a bit nerve wracking editing the page, what if I did something wrong and wiped everyones hard work! eek!

I have often used and love wikipedia its a fantastic tool for finding out quickly what a word, term, etc..etc.. means :D I wouldn't use it as the be all and end all but for a quick introduction its perfect.

Haha had a go on the wiki page of adding a link to the book I added as favourites. It was a bit scary because I could not see a way to preview before saving! I just had to cross my fingers and hope it worked :D Apparently it did so thats all ok :D except, I didnt tell it to open in a new page (apologies whoever clicks).

Week Six: Tagging, Folksonomies & Technorati

I have been using Del.ic.ious for quite awhile, its a wonderful way of keeping track of sites you come across but can't explore right at that moment, or sites you want to keep for future reference, Or sites you want to access constantly! :D Super handy because you can access it from anywhere! AND there's even more....you can access other peoples lists that they have tagged, so if you are looking for links on "website" "design" for example, you can look at what other people have tagged and check out the most often tagged items.

I also quite like seeing how many other people have tagged the same things as me!
Delicious integrates with Mozilla Firefox so all my bookmarks are imported directly from my browser :) handy!

You can also hide links :P If you have things you'd rather not have the world knowing youve tagged ;) ;) ;) hehe.

2.0 in libraries to me has so much potential its absolutely thrilling. There are so many positive aspects that we can make use of.
One of the biggest issues I think is that it is such a fast moving area, Infact the whole IT scene is fast moving. Can we? Should we? Do we want to keep up with the pace?

Have had a look at Technorati and claimed my page! :D Will start using tags from now on. :D hehe Yay even found a button! :D --->

Week Five: Play week!

This week I am exploring Image generators! I have used the South park image generator as well as the captioniser from Big Huge Labs to create this! :P Haha think we'd still get lame excuses?
Here are some random books from my Library thing catalogue.

I have had a look at Rollyo and it looks very interesting, I like the way you can personalise your search. Also the ability to narrow down your search to specific pages and thoroughly search them, is fantastic!

Week Four: RSS and Newsfeeds

This week I am exploring RSS (meaning really simple syndication) and Newsfeeds.

RSS is great, I thought because I am planning on moving to the OS Ubuntu I would use that to demonstrate what happens when you subscribe to an RSS feed.

I also been looking at the newsfeeds on Planet Ubuntu which give some fantastic advice on work around and information for the tech minded.

I also found a library blog all about gaming in libraries! :D Exciting stuff, being able to communicate idea's across the world, the gaming blog I added to the side bar there.

Week Three: Photo's and Images

This week I am exploring Flickr and creating 3rd party mashups.

Flickr is a fascinating tool if like me you enjoy looking at other people's pictures. I am surprised at how willing people are to have their intimate moments out there on the internet for anyone to see.

I have found some amazing pictures out there! In particular some of the black and white ones are just lovely.
I have discovered the website Big Huge Labs its a fantastic resource to have a play with pictures and create cool stuff, from cd covers, to photoframes! Found this awsome lolcat :D yay!
For Technology related, I again refer to Ubuntu. It is an open source operating system. As I have just built my own computer I do not want to install Vista I am looking at alternatives. Here is the website for Ubuntu . What attracts me to Ubuntu? Well its free!! :D and you rarely get a virus while running linux :D So that is what I am investigating at the moment.
